Winner Prix de Rome Sculpture 2003: Ryan Gander

Visual artist Ryan Gander (England, 1976) won the Prix de Rome Sculpture 2003 with his piece Bauhaus Revisited. Gander made a reproduction of the original Bauhaus chess set, this time executed in Zebrano wood. This type of hard wood comes from the tropical rain forests of Africa and naturally has a black and white pattern. Due to this characteric, the black and white chess pieces cannot be distinguisted from each other anymore.
